Ryan Watt: Intern Spotlight

Say hello to our media intern, Ryan. It doesn’t take long to realize this fiercely intelligent media-man is a valued member of our intern team. Between his can-do attitude and passion to learn more, we’ve been impressed with Ryan, to say the least. We took a moment to ask Ryan about his time with the RDTeam and, as expected, we were not disappointed. Here’s Ryan’s take on what it’s like to work as a media intern at RD Thomas Advertising.

Tell us something we don’t know about you.

I really like playing the guitar. I play a lot in my free time and it really helps me relax. So that’s one of my big hobbies that I don’t really mention at work.

What are you secretly good at?

I’m secretly good at writing with my right hand, but I’m left-handed. I was ambidextrous when I was younger and used to hit and bat with both hands. In High School, I had surgery on my arm so I had to write with my right hand in a lot of my classes so I got pretty good at it.

Which class has proven to be most beneficial in regards to your internship responsibilities?

My Integrated marketing communications course has been very beneficial throughout my internship. This class taught me a ton about marketing strategies and how to best communicate those strategies.

What was/is your favorite class at college?

When I was a sophomore, I took Introduction to Advertising and had a really great professor. After taking this course I knew I wanted to be in the advertising industry so it’s been a very memorable class for me.

What’s the greatest lesson you’ve learned at RD Thomas?

Staying dedicated to a project while being able to adapt to changes in the project and run with it.

What is the most fun assignment you’ve been given so far?

“That one is easy! I got to model in a shoot for The United Family Street Side Pickup. After a few months I began to see the ads pop up online (with me in them!) and even throughout different grocery stores! It’s really cool to see and by far my favorite assignment.”

What’s a typical day like as an intern at RD Thomas?

Usually, we will go over the tasks we have for the day, and then if we’re starting a campaign go over the tactics and strategy and then from there executing basically. But every day is different, it’s not like it’s set in stone.

What is the strangest assignment you’ve been given?

I would say strangest, as in foreign for me, was shopping at the grocery store for things I’ve never heard of.

Apple Music or Spotify?

You know, I would say Spotify because there are a lot of different playlists and I love my “Discover Weekly” playlist. I prefer making playlists there compared to Apple.

What’s your favorite song or who is your favorite band right now?

I would say Mt. Joy, and my favorite song is “Old Friends” by Pinegrove.

What was the last movie you watched?

The first one that comes to mind is the second “IT” movie. It was terrifying.

Outside work, what do you like to do in your spare time?

I like to play video games, play guitar, and hang out with my friends. I’m also on Tech’s Ad team, where I’ve met some pretty cool people.

What three people, dead or alive, would you like to have dinner with?

Elon Musk, Bill Gates, and Kevin Hart.

If there was a movie produced about your life, who would play you?

Dave Franko or Shia LaBeouf
